Pakistan says Trump has invited PM Sharif to join Gaza peace board

US officials say the proposed “Board of Peace” is part of the next phase of Trump’s Gaza peace initiative.

U.S. President Donald Trump has invited Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to join a proposed international body aimed at addressing the conflict in Gaza, Pakistan’s foreign ministry said on Sunday.

Responding to media queries, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stated that Pakistan would remain actively engaged with international efforts aimed at restoring peace and security in Gaza.

He emphasized that Pakistan’s participation would focus on achieving a lasting and just solution to the Palestine issue, in line with relevant United Nations resolutions. The spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s consistent support for peace, stability, and the protection of civilian lives in the region.

U.S. officials say the proposed “Board of Peace” is part of the next phase of Trump’s Gaza peace initiative.

U.S. officials say the proposed body, referred to as a “Board of Peace,” is intended to form part of the next phase of Trump’s broader Gaza initiative, following more than two years of Israel’s military campaign that has left much of the enclave devastated.

Trump has said he plans to chair the board himself, promoting an approach that combines political oversight with economic reconstruction — a vision that has drawn criticism from rights advocates and some international observers.

The White House has not detailed the responsibilities of individual board members and said no Palestinians have been named so far. It added that additional members would be announced in the coming weeks.

According to officials familiar with the matter, Washington has invited leaders from about 60 countries to participate, including Türkiye, Egypt, Argentina, Indonesia, Italy, Morocco, Britain, Germany, Canada and Australia.

On Friday, Trump named U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British prime minister Blair, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and senior U.S. negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff to the panel.

The board also includes Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Reuters reported. Israel has repeatedly opposed any formal Turkish role in Gaza’s future governance or reconstruction.
