The United Arab Emirates announced on Monday a phased resumption of air travel after days of disruption caused by the temporary closure of its airspace amid escalating regional hostilities.
The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) had suspended civilian air traffic as a precaution after waves of Iranian ballistic missiles and drones were launched toward the country, prompting widespread interceptions by air defence systems.
Authorities said the move was necessary to ensure passenger safety as aerial threats were being neutralized over parts of the country and nearby waters.

Since the start of the Iranian assault on Saturday, the Ministry of Defence said on Sunday the UAE intercepted 165 ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles and 541 drones, the vast majority of which were destroyed before reaching populated areas.
On Monday, the GCAA announced it would begin operating “special flights” across the country’s airports to facilitate the departure of stranded passengers, according to state news agency WAM.
The measure is aimed at clearing backlogs created by the airspace shutdown and restoring connectivity in a controlled manner.
Dubai Airports also confirmed a limited resumption of flights from Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport starting Monday evening, the Dubai Media Office said.
Emirates airline stated it would operate a restricted number of services from the evening of March 2, signaling a gradual return to normal operations.
Flydubai also announced the resumption of a limited number of flights. "flydubai will operate a limited number of flights on the evening of 02 March 2026. Customers are advised to update their contact details via Manage Your Booking and check Flight status at http://flydubai.com before travelling to the airport," the Dubai Media Office said in a post on X
Officials have said airspace restrictions were imposed at the height of missile and drone activity to prevent any risk to commercial aviation. While the security situation is now described as stabilizing, authorities indicated that flight schedules will continue to be adjusted based on ongoing risk assessments and coordination with relevant agencies.
