UAE condemns Israeli minister’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque
The UAE calls for protection of holy sites and urges de-escalation amid rising regional tensions.
The UAE has denounced the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s Minister of National Security, describing the act as provocative, an incitement against Muslims, and an example of extremism.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the UAE called for full protection of Al-Aqsa Mosque and an immediate halt to what it described as serious and provocative violations at the holy site.
The Ministry underscored the importance of respecting the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s custodial role over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites, as per international law and historical agreements. It emphasized the need to safeguard the authority of the Jerusalem Endowment Administration, which manages Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Dome of the Rock, and surrounding courtyards.
Highlighting the broader implications of such actions, the Ministry warned of the potential for heightened regional tensions due to ongoing violations. It urged Israeli authorities to cease actions that could escalate instability in the region, reiterating the UAE’s rejection of practices undermining international resolutions and legitimacy.
The UAE also called on the global community to intensify efforts toward achieving a political solution that ensures comprehensive peace. The Ministry reaffirmed support for a two-state solution, enabling the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in alignment with international resolutions and the aspirations of the Palestinian people.
