A post-mortem report has confirmed that a seven-year-old girl was subjected to severe torture before her death in Sargodha, with seven marks of violence documented across her body, including her face.

The report determined she died after her carotid artery was cut. Her body was found Monday inside a shop she had gone to buy items from.

What did the post-mortem report find in the Sargodha murder case?

The post-mortem found seven marks of violence on different parts of the child's body. She suffered fractures to her facial bone and forehead bone, with additional injuries recorded on the right side of her head.

The report concluded her death was caused by a severed carotid artery.

Who was arrested over the killing of the girl in Sargodha?

Authorities accused the main suspect of attempting to rape the child before killing her. He was arrested alongside at least three others alleged to have been involved in the crime. The case triggered widespread public outrage across Pakistan following the discovery of her body.

What happened to the main suspect in the Sargodha case?

On Wednesday, police said the main suspect was killed in an alleged encounter with the Crime Control Department after reportedly escaping custody.

A first information report filed by a CCD officer said he died from gunfire allegedly fired by his own accomplices during the encounter. The three remaining suspects are still in custody, according to Sargodha District Police Officer Sohaib Ashraf.

What is the CCD and why is it facing criticism?

The Crime Control Department was established in Punjab last year and has faced sustained criticism from human rights organizations over alleged extrajudicial killings. In a fact-finding report released in February, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan alleged the CCD had adopted a deliberate policy of staged police encounters.

The commission said at least 670 CCD-led encounters were carried out across Punjab over an eight-month period in 2025.
