In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, Russia and Ukraine have exchanged 150 war captives each, thanks to mediation efforts by the UAE. This latest swap brings the total number of captives exchanged through UAE-mediated efforts to 2,484.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) expressed gratitude to both nations for their cooperation and responsiveness to its mediation initiatives. The Ministry highlighted that these efforts underscore the UAE’s role as a trusted and impartial mediator, as well as the mutual recognition by Russia and Ukraine of its commitment to fostering peace and diplomacy.

This marks the tenth successful mediation facilitated by the UAE since the start of 2024, further reinforcing the trust both nations place in its mediatory capabilities.

The Ministry reiterated the UAE’s dedication to advancing peaceful solutions to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. It also emphasized its commitment to supporting initiatives that alleviate the humanitarian impact of the crisis, including efforts to assist refugees and captives.

Notably, the UAE’s diplomatic interventions have enabled ten exchanges of war captives between Russia and Ukraine this year alone. This builds on its earlier success in facilitating the release of two prisoners between the United States and Russia in December 2022.
