The United Arab Emirates plans to install more than 500 electric vehicle charging stations by the end of 2025 as part of its push for clean transportation and lower carbon emissions, Emirati media reported.

Sharif Al Olama, under-secretary for energy and petroleum affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, made the announcement on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit preliminary day, according to WAM.

He said the ministry, which owns 50% of UAEV, installed over 100 EV chargers across the country in 2024 and is rapidly expanding the network to meet growing demand.

“The initiative follows an integrated approach in collaboration with the private sector and local authorities to ensure a robust infrastructure that supports widespread EV adoption,” Al Olama said.

The UAE has been aggressively investing in sustainable energy, with EV adoption seen as a key component of its environmental strategy.

The push for a larger charging network aligns with the country’s national sustainability goals, which include reducing emissions and increasing renewable energy use.
