The UAE's Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) said employers will receive alerts about late salaries before any administrative measures apply under the latest Wage Protection System decision, Gulf News reported.

The gradual approach aims to resolve violations early and protect workers' rights.

What happens when employers pay salaries late in the UAE?

The Wage Protection System first monitors payments electronically. It then sends notifications and alerts to establishments with delayed wages. Administrative measures apply only afterward, in line with approved timelines. This gives employers a chance to correct their status and settle late payments before action is taken.

Does the new decision add obligations for UAE employers?

No. MOHRE clarified that the decision does not add new substantive obligations. It improves existing procedures, clarifies wage payment requirements and standardizes how the ministry monitors compliance.

For employers, the system flags payment delays and sends alerts before any administrative action. The ministry said this encourages businesses to meet their obligations and resolve problems at an early stage.

Early intervention also aims to improve oversight and support stable employment relationships. MOHRE said the decision is part of the continuing development of the system's regulatory and procedural framework.

Which sectors face compliance monitoring for late salaries?

Certain compliance monitoring measures apply to labor-intensive sectors. Large-scale businesses get particular attention. The ministry named construction, transportation, security services and cleaning services among the sectors covered.

MOHRE said it applies these measures based on the level of risk in each sector. The approach targets activities with the greatest impact on labor market stability.

How much does the Wage Protection System process each month?

The system processes wage payments of more than Dh37 billion every month, according to the ministry. MOHRE described it as a key part of efforts to maintain a stable and transparent work environment.

The ministry said the latest decision aims to strengthen protection for workers while helping establishments address payment delays. It also seeks to build confidence in the business environment and support the UAE labor market's appeal to global talent.
