A British man with a tattoo of Adolf Hitler's signature was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday for attempting to murder an asylum seeker in what a judge described as a terrorist attack motivated by extreme right-wing ideology.

Callum Ulysses Parslow, 32, stabbed Nahom Hagos, an asylum seeker from East Africa, at a rural hotel in central England in April. Hagos, who was eating a meal at the time, sustained severe chest and hand injuries in the unprovoked attack.

Sentencing Parslow to a minimum of 22 years and eight months, Judge Ian Dove at Woolwich Crown Court in southeast London said the attack was rooted in white supremacist beliefs.

“You committed a vicious and unprovoked assault on a complete stranger, Nahom Hagos, who suffered devastating injuries as a result of your violence,” Dove said.

The court heard that Parslow had traveled to the hotel with a specialist knife he had purchased online, aiming to attack one of the asylum seekers housed there. Following the attack, Parslow attempted to post on social media, claiming he had “done his duty to England.”

A police search of Parslow’s home revealed Nazi memorabilia, weapons, and extremist literature, including Adolf Hitler’s "Mein Kampf."

Parslow was convicted of attempted murder in October and was also handed concurrent 18-month sentences for unrelated charges, including sexual offenses and malicious communications.

The attack has drawn renewed attention to the housing of asylum seekers in UK hotels. The controversy surrounding the cost and number of migrants has fueled public debate and contributed to the rise of the anti-immigration Reform UK party.

The Labour government has pledged to reduce the number of hotels housing asylum seekers, with nine scheduled to close in March.
