Abu Dhabi has introduced a dedicated 1,000-square-meter beach area specially designed for the visually impaired, Khaleej Timesreported.

Located near Gate 3 of the Corniche, the space offers a range of free services aimed at making beach access safer and more enjoyable for individuals with visual impairments.

The initiative is part of a broader push to build a more connected and caring community, following President Sheikh Mohamed’s declaration of 2025 as the “Year of Community.” It’s a collaborative effort between Abu Dhabi City Municipality and the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, under the Department of Municipalities and Transport.

Designed for safety

According to the report, the beach is equipped with a host of features tailored to meet the needs of visually impaired visitors, including:

  • Shuttle service for “People of Determination
  • Paved walkways with tactile tiles for navigation
  • Braille signage with swimming area instructions
  • Fenced pathways with guiding ropes and sound bells at both ends
  • Supervised swimming zone with trained lifeguards
  • Braille service guides offering detailed visitor information

Additional amenities include accessible pathways, floating wheelchairs for water access, dedicated restrooms, complimentary drinking water, designated parking, and free entry for visually impaired visitors along with one companion.

Daily access and recognition

Open from 6 a.m. to midnight daily, swimming is permitted until sunset. A licensed nurse will be on-site during operating hours to provide first aid if needed.

Recognized by the World Disability Union as a disability-friendly beach, the facility meets global standards for accessibility, ensuring a safe and empowering recreational experience for all, the report added.
