At least 10 people were killed and 13 others injured on Wednesday after a tourist van caught fire on the Murree Expressway in northern Pakistan, Motorway Police said.

The vehicle was travelling near Khajut when it lost control on a turn, veered off the road, and plunged into a roadside drain before catching fire.

The van lost control while negotiating a turn near Khajut and overturned into a roadside drain, catching fire immediately on impact. Ten people were killed and 13 injured.

Motorway Police said the van landed in a position that made it impossible to open its doors, severely complicating rescue efforts at the scene.

The bodies of the deceased and the injured were transferred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Islamabad for treatment and medico-legal procedures.

Emergency services, motorway police, and local administration officials reached the site shortly after the incident and launched rescue and relief operations. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. No official comment has been made yet on whether speeding, road conditions, or mechanical failure contributed to the crash.
