Abu Dhabi launches AI platform to support judicial decisions

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has launched the first phase of its Judicial AI Platform, WAM reported. Developed with the Department of Government Enablement, it uses AI to support judicial and legal decision-making under full human oversight.

What is the Judicial AI Platform?

The Judicial AI Platform is an Abu Dhabi system that helps judicial authorities make legal decisions using AI. Humans verify every output. The ADJD says it is the first integrated system of its kind globally.

The first phase is part of an 18-month roadmap. The roadmap aims to complete the platform and expand its use across judicial workflows.

Counsellor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, undersecretary of the ADJD, said the platform marks a new phase in the department's digital transformation. It combines smart technologies with judicial expertise. The aim is to improve litigation efficiency and reduce procedural times.

How does AI support judicial decisions in Abu Dhabi?

The first phase includes a tool called "Judicial Assistant." It supports judicial authority members in the Public Prosecution and criminal courts. It helps them analyze specific types of cases, recommend decisions and draft judgments.

Drafts include references to legislation and judicial precedents. The final decision stays with the judicial authority member. It is based on professional judgment and the law.

Who is behind the Judicial AI Platform?

Al Abri said the launch reflects the department's commitment to the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He cited the president's forward-looking approach to adopting advanced technologies in government.

He said the initiative also follows directives from His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, vice president, deputy prime minister, chairman of the Presidential Court and chairman of the ADJD. The directives call for modernizing the judicial system in line with best practices and delivering swift, innovative justice.

What will the next phases of the Judicial AI Platform include?

Later phases will expand AI capabilities. They will integrate the platform with criminal, civil and other relevant ADJD systems.

The platform will also provide real-time translation and automated hearing records. It will include advanced tools to detect forged documents. These features are meant to improve the efficiency and accuracy of judicial processes.
