Abu Dhabi Police arrested two Asian nationals in possession of 184 kilograms of hashish in a major drug bust, authorities said.
The operation, dubbed "Secret Hideouts," dealt a major blow to drug dealers, according to a police statement quoted by Khaleej Times.
Brigadier Taher Gharib Al Dhaheri, director of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate at the Criminal Security Sector of Abu Dhabi Police, said the criminal network was controlled by an Asian national based outside the UAE.
The network used international telephone numbers to randomly send unsolicited promotional messages advertising illegal drugs.
The traffickers attempted to hide the hashish inside marble cylinders and used multiple drop-off locations to evade detection. However, authorities successfully intercepted the operation and referred the suspects to judicial authorities.
Brigadier Al Dhaheri highlighted Abu Dhabi Police’s advanced capabilities in combating drug-related crimes, emphasizing the use of cutting-edge technologies to uncover criminal schemes. He reiterated the police force’s commitment to disrupting the operations of drug traffickers, smugglers, and dealers to ensure public safety.
Abu Dhabi Police urged the public to report any suspicious activity related to drug promotion.
