  • The UAE continues to spearhead agricultural innovation and sustainability in the region, focusing on enhancing food security through advanced technologies and regenerative practices. Under the patronage of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the UAE is addressing its unique agricultural challenges—such as extreme heat, water scarcity, and desertification—while ensuring long-term resilience in the sector.

Mohammed Salman Al Hammadi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Food Diversity Sector at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, highlighted the importance of the newly launched "Plant the Emirates" initiative by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This initiative encourages agricultural activities across homes, schools, and businesses, and reinforces the UAE’s commitment to strengthening its food security system.

"These efforts, coupled with the establishment of the National Agricultural Center, are key to supporting farmers, providing training, and fostering public-private partnerships that drive sustainability in the agricultural sector," Al Hammadi stated.

The UAE's strategic focus on agriculture is part of its broader Vision 2030, which prioritizes sustainable development across all sectors.

The government’s approach integrates cutting-edge technologies such as AI-driven monitoring systems and drone technology for farm inspections. Ohoud Abdulla Mohamed Al Ali, Acting Director of the Agricultural Control Department at Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), explained how drones are now used to enhance compliance and biosecurity.

"Through AI, we can monitor farms efficiently, detect non-compliant practices immediately, and ensure the implementation of sustainable farming practices," she said.

A key focus for the UAE is regenerative agriculture, a method that enhances soil health, biodiversity, and water conservation, while reducing carbon emissions.

These practices are crucial to building resilience within the agricultural sector and mitigating the impacts of climate change. Experts across the sector agree that adopting regenerative methods is vital for improving food security and ensuring the UAE’s agricultural systems are future-proof.

The UAE's commitment to agricultural advancements is further demonstrated by its strong ties with global partners. Anthony Yandell, Group Sales Manager at Balco Australia, praised the UAE’s proactive stance in strengthening its agricultural sector, noting that the UAE is a key market for sustainable agricultural solutions.

"Our collaboration with UAE stakeholders underscores the country’s leadership in advancing agricultural practices through innovation and quality," Yandell stated.

As the UAE continues to invest in technological solutions and innovative farming practices, the country is positioning itself as a regional leader in the drive for food security.

The focus on sustainability, coupled with strategic partnerships and technological advancements, ensures that the UAE is not only addressing immediate challenges but also preparing for a resilient and secure agricultural future.

Looking ahead, the UAE remains committed to enhancing its agricultural infrastructure, supporting farmers, and fostering innovation across the sector. With ongoing investments in regenerative practices and cutting-edge technologies, the nation is well on its way to achieving its sustainability and long-term food security goals.
