Rashed Al Qemzi retains a six-point lead in the UIM F2 World Championship

Team Abu Dhabi’s Mansoor Al Mansoori showcased an impressive performance at the Grand Prix of Portugal on Sunday, securing a dominant victory. This win not only highlights Al Mansoori's exceptional driving skills but also sets the stage for his teammate Rashed Al Qemzi to secure a record fifth title in the UIM F2 World Championship.

Starting from pole position, Al Mansoori delivered a flawless drive in the penultimate round of the 2024 championship, demonstrating his speed and precision throughout the race. His victory adds to his impressive season, which includes earlier wins in Norway and Italy. With this latest triumph, Al Mansoori has solidified his position as a formidable contender in the F2 series.

Meanwhile, Al Qemzi’s fourth-place finish in Peso Da Régua keeps him in a strong position for the upcoming final Grand Prix at Vila Velha de Ródão. He heads into the final race with a six-point lead over Lithuania’s Edgaras Riabko. To retain his F2 crown, Al Qemzi needs another win to complement his earlier successes in the season.

Al Mansoori’s victory pushes him up to third place in the championship standings, just four points behind Riabko, who secured a podium finish in Peso Da Régua. The competition for the top spots is heating up as the season nears its end, with Al Mansoori’s recent performances underlining his status as a serious contender.

In addition, the Grand Prix saw Matthew Palfreyman of Great Britain finish in second place, which allowed him to level the standings with Sweden’s Mathilda Wiberg. Both drivers are now vying for a top-three finish in the championship as the season concludes.

Al Mansoori’s success at the Grand Prix of Portugal marks his second F2 victory of the season and reaffirms his potential as a future champion. Having succeeded Al Qemzi as F4-S world champion in 2017, Al Mansoori has steadily built his career in F2, joining Team Abu Dhabi in 2021. His impressive performances this season, including a strong finish in San Nazzaro, have positioned him as a key player in the championship.

As the 2024 UIM F2 World Championship heads towards its final showdown, all eyes will be on the concluding race to see if Al Qemzi can secure his fifth title or if challengers like Al Mansoori and Riabko will make a decisive impact.
