Anil Kapoor among Time's 100 Most Influential People in AI for 2024

This recognition follows Kapoor’s legal victory last year, where he successfully defended his personality rights in the Delhi High Court, protecting his image from digital misuse.

Known for his natural acting style, impeccable comic timing, and, of late, his reputation as one of Bollywood’s most stylish older actors, Anil Kapoor is among two Indians on Time's AI 2024 list.

Kapoor announced this accomplishment on Instagram:

"With immense gratitude and a humble heart, I find myself among the visionaries shaping the future of Artificial Intelligence," wrote Kapoor.

The recognition comes after Kapoor won a suit filed in the Delhi High Court in September 2023 to protect his name, image, voice, and other attributes of his persona against misuse across digital media. The suit provided examples of the times his persona had been misused.

After hearings and deliberation, the court restrained 16 defendants from using any of Kapoor's personality attributes in digital content.

The Mr. India actor felt legal action was necessary when his likeness, along with the word 'jhakaas', said in his signature style began circulating in large numbers across the internet.

“Because of the way technology and the AI technology, which is evolving every day [and] which can completely take advantage of and be misused commercially, as well as where my image, voice, morphing, GIFs and deep fakes are concerned, I can straight away, if that happens, send a court order and injunction and they have to pull it down,” Kapoor had told Variety when the order was passed.

He took this action not just to protect his own rights, but those of other actors—and to ensure his family could benefit from his legacy.

"Kapoor’s victory has also paved the way for others to seek protection over their personality rights," notes Time.
