Anthropic has secured USD 65 billion in funding at a USD 965 billion post-money valuation in its latest funding round, marking what could be the AI startup’s final private fundraising before entering public markets.

The Series H round was co-led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, Sequoia Capital, Capital Group, Coatue and D1 Capital Partners, among others.

Institutional investors, including Baillie Gifford, Blackstone, Brookfield, D.E. Shaw Ventures, DST Global and Fidelity Management & Research, also participated in the round.

Strategic infrastructure partners, including Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron, joined the round as well.

A portion of the funding, USD 15 billion, consists of previously committed investments from hyperscalers, including a USD 5 billion investment from Amazon announced in April.

TechCrunch reported last month that Anthropic was close to finalizing a USD 50 billion funding round, with investors competing for a place on the company’s cap table. One institutional investor reportedly pledged as much as USD 5 billion just to secure a meeting with Anthropic Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao.

Anthropic said it plans to use the new funding to “advance our safety and interpretability research, expand compute to meet growing demand for Claude, and scale the products and partnerships our customers rely on.”

The funding announcement came the same day Anthropic released its new Claude Opus 4.8 model, which the company said offers improved capabilities in agentic tasks, advanced coding, and enhanced honesty and self-correction.

The AI startup is also reportedly preparing a broader release of models comparable to its cybersecurity-focused model, Mythos, which has so far been released only in limited form because of potential safety concerns.

The company has experienced rapid growth since its previous funding round, particularly among enterprise customers using Claude Code.

Anthropic said its annualized revenue run rate surpassed USD 47 billion earlier this month. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that the startup expects revenue to surge 130%, helping it achieve its first operating profit.

“Claude’s latest advancements have driven large-scale adoption among the world’s most demanding organizations. This momentum positions Anthropic to lead the next phase of AI innovation and capture the enormous opportunity ahead,” said Brad Gerstner.

Anthropic remains in close competition with OpenAI for fundraising and user growth ahead of their anticipated IPOs. OpenAI last raised USD 122 billion in March at a USD 852 billion post-money valuation.

SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk and merged with xAI earlier this year, is targeting a USD 2 trillion valuation in its planned IPO and is seeking to raise more than USD 75 billion.
