Arab athletes secure second gold medal at Paris 2024
Bahraini and Algerian athletes secure historic gold medals, leading a wave of success
Bahraini speedster Winfried Yafi has etched her name in Olympic history, securing the second gold medal for the Arab world at the Paris Games. The 3,000m steeplechase champion not only crossed the finish line first but also shattered the Olympic record with a breathtaking time of eight minutes and 52.76 seconds.
Yafi's victory was a thrilling spectacle. She unleashed a powerful final sprint to overtake defending champion Peruth Chemutai of Uganda, leaving the crowd on the edge of their seats. This golden achievement adds another jewel to her crown, following her world championship title in Budapest last year. Yafi's triumph marks the third Olympic gold for the Gulf nation and the second in the grueling steeplechase after Ruth Jebet's 2016 Rio victory.
This triumph comes on the heels of another historic win for the Arab world. Seventeen-year-old Algerian gymnast Kaylia Nammour soared to gold on the uneven bars, claiming the first-ever Olympic gold for Algeria and Africa in gymnastics.

The Arab world is celebrating a wave of Olympic success. Tunisian fencer Fares Ferjani clinched silver, while Egyptian fencer Mohamed El Sayed brought home bronze. The football pitch also promises Arab glory, with Morocco and Egypt set to battle for bronze on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in the boxing ring, Algerian Iman Khelif is making waves. Despite facing controversy, she proved her mettle by reaching the 66kg final. Her impressive victory over Thai opponent Jangim Suwanaveng guarantees at least a silver medal. The stage is set for a showdown with China's Liu Yang on Friday.
