As floods devastate parts of Pakistan, some believe the surge of water could revive the dying Indus Delta. But experts say the reality is far more complex.

With seawater intrusion swallowing fertile land, mangrove forests vanishing, and downstream flows reduced by nearly 80% since the 1950s, the delta’s survival demands more than seasonal floods.

The government’s “Living Indus Initiative” offers hope, but experts stress that only a sustained, long-term strategy can restore the delta’s health.
