Chinese carmaker BYD Global sells over 500,000 vehicles for first time in a month
The company's revenue exceeded Tesla's in the third quarter despite lower sales
Chinese carmaker BYD Global sold 502,657 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in October — a 20% increase compared to September — and marking the first time its monthly sales crossed the 500,000 vehicles mark, foreign media reported on Tuesday.
The company, which is among China's top manufacturers of NEVs, sold 310,912 plug-in hybrid vehicles — 129% more compared to the same month last year — and 189,614 all-electric vehicles, a rise of 15% from October 2023.
The Ocean (Dynasty) series alone sold 483,437 units, while the Fangcheangbao brand, Denza, and Yangwang sold 6,026, 10,781, and 282 units, respectively.
BYD Global's sales have reached 3.25 million vehicles this year so far, and its revenue exceeded Tesla's in the third quarter despite the latter's sales being higher.
The company also sold 32,000 vehicles in overseas markets in October. These sales are expected to increase as its production plants in Thailand, Turkey, Hungary, and Mexico start operations.
