DP World achieved a major milestone in 2024, handling a record 1.3 million vehicles across its terminals in Dubai—a 53.6% increase from the previous year and the highest volume in the company’s history.
The majority of this volume, nearly 960,000 units, was processed at Jebel Ali Port, solidifying its position as the region’s premier automotive hub. The remaining vehicles were handled at Mina Al Hamriya and Mina Rashid, further reinforcing DP World’s critical role in vehicle imports and exports across the Gulf region.
China leads automotive trade growth
China emerged as DP World’s top trading partner, contributing 25% of vehicle volumes, followed by Japan, Korea, and India. As the global automotive industry shifts towards electric vehicles (EVs)—projected to surpass internal combustion engine vehicles by 2036—supply chains are evolving to support the demand for sustainable mobility. Given that China manufactures more than half of the world’s EVs, Dubai's position as a logistics hub has become increasingly strategic.
Expanding infrastructure to meet growing demand
Abdulla bin Damithan, CEO & Managing Director of DP World GCC, highlighted Dubai’s rise as a global automotive hub, emphasizing its impact on Asia, Europe, and the local economy. “The automotive industry is a powerful catalyst for economic growth—creating employment, attracting foreign investment, and stimulating local businesses,” he stated.
With global passenger vehicle sales projected to grow from 94.7 million in 2024 to 109 million by 2030, DP World’s expansion aligns with Dubai’s D33 Economic Agenda, which aims to double the size of the economy.
By reinforcing its automotive logistics and trade capabilities, DP World is not only setting new records but also shaping Dubai’s future as a global hub for mobility and trade.
