Pakistan’s Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday granted interim relief to renowned dermatologist and social media personality Dr. Fazeela Abbasi, restraining authorities from arresting her in a multi-billion-rupee money laundering case.
The court approved her interim bail against surety bonds of PKR100,000, with the hearing presided over by Justice Muhammad Azam Khan. Dr. Abbasi had approached the IHC after a lower court revoked her bail due to her non-appearance in previous proceedings.
During Tuesday’s hearing, the high court restored her bail and directed her to appear before the trial court for subsequent proceedings.
Dr. Abbasi is wanted by Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) over alleged large-scale financial irregularities and money laundering.
Authorities say the case involves the suspected laundering and concealment of funds estimated at around PKR 2.5 billion.
Earlier, a trial court had granted Dr. Abbasi bail, which was later canceled after she failed to appear for scheduled hearings, rendering her liable for arrest. Following this, she petitioned the Islamabad High Court for legal protection, seeking pre-arrest bail until the conclusion
