Dubai launched the Dubai Longevity Authority, establishing a dedicated regulator to oversee the emirate's longevity, wellness and advanced healthcare sectors, according to Dubai Media Office.
The authority was created by law under Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and will be chaired by Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, also UAE Defense Minister. The move positions Dubai as a global hub for longevity science and medical innovation.
What is the Dubai Longevity Authority and what will it do?
The Dubai Longevity Authority is a new regulatory body mandated to develop a science-based framework for longevity-related treatments, research and innovation. It will oversee licensing for advanced therapies and research delivery while supporting investment and technology transfer. The authority also aligns with Dubai's broader D33 economic agenda and its goals for long-term diversification.
Sheikh Mohammed said the initiative reflects Dubai's commitment to investing in people and improving quality of life through science, innovation and healthcare development. "The true wealth of nations lies in their people," he said, adding that Dubai aims to lead global efforts in healthcare innovation by leveraging biotechnology, life sciences and medical research. He said the authority was designed to attract global talent and investment in advanced health technologies.
How does the Dubai Longevity Authority fit Dubai's economic goals?
Saeed Al Marri, director general of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, said the authority would help create a regulated market for advanced medical products and therapies, drawing in investment and supporting technology transfer.
He added that it would contribute to Dubai's economic diversification plans and efforts to extend both lifespan and healthy life expectancy. The authority is intended to strengthen Dubai's position as a global center for innovation and investment.
Globally, advances in longevity research are expected to raise average life expectancy, which currently stands at around 73 years, though healthy life expectancy remains lower in many regions. In the UAE, the World Health Organization estimates healthy life expectancy at approximately 66 years, reflecting the burden of chronic diseases and other health conditions.
The new authority is intended to address that gap through regulated innovation and medical research.
