Dubai Police’s General Department of Criminal Investigation arrested an eight-member gang accused of running a fake driving licence scheme.

Dubai Police have arrested an eight-member gang over a fake driving license scheme, Khaleej Times reported. The gang is accused of fraudulently obtaining foreign licenses for customers who never traveled to the country or completed the required lessons and tests.
How did the fake driving license scheme work?
The gang obtained foreign driving licenses for customers without lessons or tests. The licenses were meant to be swapped for UAE driving licenses under international exchange agreements. Each customer paid Dh10,000.
Why did the gang target license exchange agreements?
The agreements allow eligible foreign license holders to exchange their licenses for UAE ones without extra training or testing. The gang exploited this rule to get its customers UAE licenses.
Which agencies arrested the gang?
Dubai Police’s General Department of Criminal Investigation made the arrests. It worked with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Can customers face charges for using fake license services?
Police warned that anyone who knowingly uses such illegal services may face criminal liability. This applies to people who pay for a license without following the required legal procedures.
Exchanging a fraudulently obtained foreign license for a UAE license does not erase previous violations. It also does not exempt the holder from legal responsibility.
Police said the official exchange process must never be used to conceal unlawful practices.
