Dubai’s Rental Disputes Centre (RDC) settled 2,350 rental disputes worth Dh401 million amicably between January and September 2026. The cases took six days on average, Gulf News reported.

The figures show landlords and tenants are turning to conciliation for faster, less confrontational outcomes.

What is amicable settlement of rental disputes in Dubai?

An amicable settlement lets landlords and tenants resolve a rental disagreement through negotiation instead of a full court case. The RDC’s Conciliation and Settlement Department assists both sides. A supervising judge then approves the deal, giving it the legal force of an enforceable instrument.

How does the RDC conciliation process work?

Under the RDC’s conciliation system, parties get a chance to settle before formal litigation begins. Both sides negotiate with help from the centre’s Conciliation and Settlement Department.

Once they reach an agreement, a supervising judge approves it. The settlement then carries the legal force of an enforceable instrument. It is not an informal understanding but a legally enforceable agreement that protects the rights of both parties.

What did the RDC chairman say about the results?

Judge Abdulqader Mousa Mohammed, chairman of the RDC, said the results show the effectiveness of Dubai’s approach to resolving rental disagreements. He said timely resolution, procedural quality and protection of rights are all outcomes of specialized expertise and an immediate response to the needs of disputing parties.

He added that the RDC continues to advance its legal framework to support the stability of contractual relationships and build confidence in Dubai’s judicial system.

Why do amicable settlements matter for landlords and tenants?

Amicable settlements let both sides avoid the time and uncertainty of formal court proceedings. They also allow landlords and tenants to negotiate practical solutions and preserve contractual relationships where possible.

According to the RDC, the approach also helps reduce the social and economic consequences of prolonged rental disagreements.

As Dubai’s rental market grows, the centre said it will keep improving dispute resolution procedures and ensuring fair access to justice. It also aims to encourage landlords and tenants to settle disagreements through conciliation.
