FBR extends workweek to Saturdays in push for tax collection
FBR falls PKR 703 billion short of tax target in July-March

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced Friday that all its field formations will observe Saturdays as regular working days through June 30, 2025.
The directive is part of the FBR’s broader strategy to intensify efforts to achieve its ambitious tax collection targets for the current fiscal year.
In a communication to Inland Revenue (IR) field offices—including Large Taxpayer Offices (LTOs), Medium Tax Offices (MTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs)—the FBR emphasized that proactive enforcement measures are crucial in the coming months.
By utilizing Saturdays as additional working days, the agency aims to maximize operational efficiency and seize every opportunity to meet revenue goals.
The FBR provisionally collected PKR 1.12 trillion in March, falling short of the assigned target of PKR 1.22 trillion by PKR 100 billion.
From July through March in the 2024-25 fiscal year, the FBR collected PKR 8.46 trillion, missing its PKR 9.17 trillion target by PKR 703 billion.
Following recommendations from the International Monetary Fund, the government revised the FBR’s annual tax collection target downward—from PKR 12.91 trillion to PKR 12.33 trillion for 2024-25.
