The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has held talks with US Embassy officials to explore investment and trade opportunities in Pakistan's mining and minerals sector, focusing on technology transfer, mineral processing and direct links between producers and buyers.

An FPCCI delegation led by President Atif Ikram Sheikh met embassy representatives in Islamabad, according to a statement issued by the business body on October 19.

The discussions covered opportunities to develop commercially viable projects involving copper, gold, gemstones, rare earths and industrial minerals through American investment and technical cooperation.

What is FPCCI seeking from US investors?

FPCCI wants to attract American investment and mining expertise to help develop Pakistan's mineral resources. Its priorities include modern exploration techniques, local mineral processing, stronger supply chains and direct commercial connections between Pakistani miners and US buyers, with the aim of expanding exports and creating jobs.

Sheikh said Pakistan's mining sector held trillions of dollars in untapped potential and that FPCCI wanted to serve as a transparent and credible link between local mining businesses and American investors.

He emphasized that cooperation should extend beyond mineral extraction to creating jobs, adding value to raw materials and supporting export-led economic growth.

Muhammad Adil Obaid, convener of FPCCI's Committee on Minerals Trade, Investment and Marketing, briefed US officials on projects described as ready for investment. He also highlighted the need for improved exploration technology, mineral processing facilities and supply-chain development.

Both sides discuss continued coordination

According to FPCCI, US Embassy representatives welcomed its proposed approach and agreed to explore arrangements for continued institutional coordination.

FPCCI's Capital Office would serve as the central facilitation hub for engagement between Pakistani businesses and prospective American partners.

The FPCCI delegation also included Vice President Tariq Jadoon, Capital Office Chairman Karim Aziz Malik, committee Deputy Convener Iftikhar Hussain and Adil Tasneem, coordinator to the FPCCI president.

The US Embassy delegation included Col. Joshua Khoury, Economic Officer Trevor Earnshaw, Economic Coordinator Anum Masood and Program Specialist Raja Rafaqat Ali.

The discussions remain exploratory. The FPCCI statement did not identify any signed investment agreements, confirmed financing commitments or finalized mining projects. Any future commercial arrangements would be subject to regulatory approvals and mutually agreed terms.
