From one salon to 90+: Masarrat Misbah’s Depilex & beauty industry story

In 1980, Masarrat Misbah opened her first salon in Karachi. The idea of beauty looked very different then.

After dropping her children at school, she would head to Depilex to open the salon while cleaning was still underway. She recalls a neighbour telling her that women like her would “ruin the neighborhood” because makeup and styled hair were often viewed negatively at the time.

From one salon, Depilex grew to 90+ branches across Pakistan, while MM Makeup became a fixture in television makeup rooms.
