India, Saudi Arabia sign MoU to strengthen telecommunications collaboration
Agreement aims to promote bilateral engagement and cooperation between India and Saudi Arabia in telecommunications regulation and development.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with Saudi Arabia’s Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), marking a new chapter of collaboration between the two nations in the field of telecommunications, reported WAM.
The agreement, signed during the inaugural session of an international conference of telecom regulators hosted by TRAI, aims to promote bilateral engagement and cooperation between India and Saudi Arabia in telecommunications regulation and development.
This MoU is TRAI's 20th such bilateral agreement globally and signals deeper ties between India and the Gulf region.
Vandana Sethi, TRAI’s Advisor on international relations, highlighted the significance of the agreement, stating that it “formalizes the long-standing bilateral relations” in communications regulation between the two countries.
India’s Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia shared a message at the event, emphasizing the potential of non-terrestrial networks to revolutionize communication technologies.
He noted that these advancements will play a key role in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs).
The one-day conference, themed "Emerging Trends in Regulation," was attended by industry leaders, including Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Doreen Bogdan-Martin.
The event focused on the evolution of global telecom regulations in response to emerging technologies and trends.
