Iran envoy slams Trump over US strikes, thanks Pakistan for support

Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Muqaddam, is addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Muqaddam, on Sunday launched a scathing criticism of U.S. President Donald Trump following the American strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling the possibility of Trump receiving a Nobel Peace Prize “the strangest incident in history.”

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Muqaddam accused Trump of shedding the blood of innocent people just months after assuming office.

“It has only been a few months since Trump took office, and already his hands are stained with the blood of innocents,” he said. “If he gets the Nobel Peace Prize, then what should be done with criminals?”

Pakistan on Saturday said it was nominating Trump as "a genuine peacemaker" for his role in bringing a four-day conflict with India to an end last month. It said he had “demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship”.

Muqaddam refrained from commenting on the recent meeting between Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Trump, saying it was a bilateral matter between Islamabad and Washington.

He criticized the U.S. for launching the strike against Iran without Congressional approval and claimed that Trump ignored all advice to show restraint.

“Trump did not even listen to Congress before attacking us,” he said. “He has gifted occupied Palestinian territory to the Zionists and claimed there is no two-state solution — only one state, for the Zionists.”

The ambassador also accused the U.S. of launching aggression against another permanent member of the UN Security Council and condemned what he called a “criminal attack” on a non-nuclear weapon state.

He defended Iran’s nuclear program, saying it was rooted in scientific knowledge and national sovereignty.

“Our nuclear program is the knowledge of our scientists. Even if sites are hit, the knowledge cannot be bombed,” he said.

Muqaddam said Iran’s nuclear activities have been declared peaceful 15 times by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and noted that U.S. intelligence agencies had twice confirmed the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.

“Our Supreme Leader has made it clear: nuclear weapons are prohibited in our defense doctrine,” he added.

The ambassador confirmed that the U.S. struck Iranian nuclear sites just two days before scheduled talks in Muscat with American and European delegations.

“We were attacked on June 13, a Friday, two days before talks in Oman on June 15. Our leaders, commanders, scientists, and civilians were martyred,” he said.

He linked the timing of the attack to Iran’s vocal opposition to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

“We’ve been targeted for opposing the genocide of Gazans and Palestinians,” he said. “Under Article 51 of the UN Charter, we have the right to defend ourselves.”

Muqaddam claimed Israel could not withstand even 10 days of Iranian homemade missile attacks and turned to the U.S. for help.

“Zionists want to spread war across the region. But we will defend ourselves with our own weapons, and we believe we will win, as we did in the past.”

He accused the U.S. of trying to force regime change in Iran using exiled figures.

“This is not new. Since our revolution, there have been talks of regime change. President Carter tried it, but even he negotiated with us,” he said. “They want to replace us with a stooge of the U.S. and Israel. But the Iranian people reject him.”

Muqaddam said Iran has not sought assistance from any country and does not expect other Muslim nations to confront the U.S. and Israel.

“If anyone were to resist the U.S. and Israel, it should have been Muslim countries,” he said. “But we are alone in this. Only Russia, another UN Security Council member under Western pressure, has supported us consistently.”

He thanked Pakistan’s Senate and National Assembly for passing resolutions condemning Israeli aggression and praised Islamabad’s continued efforts to prevent a wider war.

“No one has supported us like Pakistan has in the Muslim world,” he said. “We know they have limitations, but we see their sincerity.”

He specifically thanked Pakistan’s president, prime minister, foreign minister, defense minister, religious leaders, politicians, and ordinary citizens for their “unconditional support.”

Sources close to the Iranian embassy told Nukta that the U.S. attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites were launched from the western side of Iran — through Jordan, Syria, and Iraq.

Muqaddam ended his address by warning of the broader implications of the strikes.

“The illegal Zionist regime is not a member of the NPT, nor the chemical or biological weapons conventions,” he said. “But in coordination with three UN Security Council members, they attacked Iran, which is a signatory to all those treaties.”

He called the current war an assault not only on Iran but on the entire Muslim world.
