Iran exported non-oil commodities worth $2.2 billion to Pakistan over an 11-month period, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) announced.

According to Tehran Times, Foroud Asgari said Pakistan ranked as Iran’s sixth-largest export destination from March 20, 2024, to February 18, 2025.

His remarks came as experts and officials gathered at a seminar titled Iran-Pakistan Relations: Trade Outlook and Strengthening Connectivity, hosted March 1 by the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) in collaboration with the Iranian Embassy.

Speakers emphasized the need for constructive dialogue between Tehran and Islamabad to overcome trade barriers, improve logistical frameworks, and strengthen regional connectivity. They stressed that achieving mutual benefits requires political commitment and practical steps from both nations.

Keynote speakers included Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tehran Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, ISSI Chairman Sohail Mahmood, and former Pakistani Ambassador to Iran Riffat Masood.

Discussions highlighted a $10 billion trade target and key energy initiatives as crucial to fostering economic ties. Experts underscored challenges such as administrative hurdles, transportation inefficiencies, and broader geopolitical factors but urged a structured engagement built on trust and reciprocal efforts.

Pakistani officials also called for enhanced border security and stronger cooperation on major infrastructure projects, including linking Gwadar and Chabahar ports and advancing Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) collaborations, which could unlock greater trade opportunities.
