The middle-order batter says his unorthodox technique is original, not inspired by the Australian star

Multan Sultans' middle-order batter Kamran Ghulam has brushed off comparisons with Australian star Steve Smith, saying his unique batting style has always been his own.

“Many people say I copy Steve Smith, but the reality is I don’t imitate anyone,” Ghulam said while speaking to the media during a net practice session at Oval Ground in National Stadium Karachi.

“This has been my style since the beginning. I’ve played first-class and domestic cricket in the same manner, and nothing has changed.”

The Sultans took part in a rigorous training session ahead of the highly anticipated HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 that involved many major players including captain Mohammad Rizwan, Iftikhar Ahmed, David Willey, and Mohammad Hasnain.

Ghulam, who previously represented Lahore Qalandars in 2022 and 2024, is making his debut appearance for Multan Sultans this season. “I’m really looking forward to playing for Multan Sultans. The team’s morale is high, and I’ve been preparing well. Now it’s time to perform and contribute,” the batsman said.

He emphasized that his main goal is to make a mark in the tournament. “Every cricketer wants to win the PSL and put on performances that catch the selectors’ eye. I’m focused on scoring runs and helping my team lift the trophy,” Ghulam added.

When asked about the waning interest among fans following the national team’s recent poor form, Ghulam disagreed with the notion that it impacts the HBL PSL 10.

“Whether the national team performs well or not, the PSL has its own charm. Fans love to watch their favorite players in action. Once the tournament begins, the stadiums are packed, and the passion is always there,” he said.

The batter also requested fans in Karachi to turn up at the stadium and support the league. “Make sure to come to the stadium and support the matches being held here,” he said. “Enjoy the games and cheer for your teams — your support means a lot.”

When asked about the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kamran Ghulam made it clear that the PSL is his only focus. “We have nothing to do with the IPL. Our league is successful in its own right and continues to grow stronger every year. Our complete focus is on this tournament," he said.

With renewed energy and clear goals, Ghulam is ready to make an impact in HBL PSL 10 as he takes on a new challenge with the Multan Sultans.
