Korangi Creek fire flickers out again, confirms TPL Properties
Second extinguishment in 10 days sparks cautious optimism, technical committee engaged

TPL Properties has confirmed that the fire at Korangi Creek, which reignited on April 23, has now been extinguished naturally. This marks the second time in the past 10 days that the fire has ceased without external intervention.
The initial fire broke out on March 28, 2025, during drilling operations near an oil refinery. It was first extinguished naturally on April 15, but authorities later reignited it to prevent gas leak hazards. Industry experts estimate that complete containment remains on schedule for the projected two-to-three-week timeline.
A Technical Committee, formed by the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) on April 8, has engaged American firm Cudd Well to evaluate the situation and advise on containment strategies.
Officials attribute the fire’s decline in intensity and eventual extinguishment to the burning of a small gas pocket, with further actions awaiting recommendations from the committee.
TPL Properties extended its gratitude to the Government of Pakistan, the Ministry of Energy, OCL, PRL, the Mayor of Karachi, and other local authorities for their swift response and continued support during the incident.Popular
