Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underwent major surgery at Sharif Medical City Hospital in Lahore on Thursday and has since been discharged and shifted home, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said.
Aurangzeb confirmed the procedure in a statement posted on X, adding that Nawaz was later sent home for recovery.
She did not specify the nature of the procedure but described it as a "major surgery" carried out at Sharif Medical City Hospital.
Did Maryam Nawaz continue working during her hospitalization?
Aurangzeb said that despite her hospitalization, Nawaz continued to monitor provincial administrative affairs from the hospital.
This included overseeing security and sanitation arrangements on the first day of Eid. Federal Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja also responded to Aurangzeb's post, expressing prayers for the chief minister's swift recovery.
Has Maryam Nawaz been hospitalized before?
Maryam was previously admitted to Sharif Medical City Hospital in November 2024 for medical checks. Officials said at the time that she underwent thyroid-related examinations.
Last month, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari rejected social media claims that the chief minister had cancer, calling the reports "completely false" and describing them as deliberate misinformation.
