Mohammad Nawaz is facing a PCB investigation after reportedly returning a positive test for recreational drug use, according to ESPNcricinfo. The development has also ended his planned move to Surrey for the upcoming T20 Blast in England.

The PCB confirmed that it was informed of the matter by the ICC and has started the due process, with findings expected to be shared with the governing body. Nawaz, who has played 98 T20Is for Pakistan, was set to join Surrey after receiving an NOC earlier this month, but the deal has since collapsed.

ESPNcricinfo reports the positive result stems from testing conducted during this year’s T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, where Nawaz featured in all seven of Pakistan’s matches, scoring 15 runs and taking seven wickets as the side exited at the Super Eight stage.

The 32-year-old has remained active in the ongoing PSL season, turning out regularly for Multan Sultans, including a recent spell of three wicketless overs in their win over Rawalpindi.

Surrey have declined to comment on the situation, while the ICC has also remained silent.
