Pakistan's National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned Noreen Niazi, sister of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, to appear on July 20.

The agency accuses her of spreading "false, offensive and inflammatory" content against state institutions. The summons follows a podcast interview in which Niazi made a series of controversial claims.

Why did NCCIA summon Noreen Niazi?

NCCIA summoned Noreen Niazi after she allegedly shared social media content defaming state institutions and spreading false narratives.

A notice dated July 18 said she must appear at the agency's Islamabad office on July 20. The notice did not specify which posts or statements triggered the inquiry.

What did the NCCIA notice say?

The notice stated that Niazi had been found disseminating "false, offensive and inflammatory" content aimed at defaming state institutions. It directed her to appear at NCCIA's office in Islamabad's G-13/3 sector for an inquiry. It also warned that failing to comply would be treated as having no defense to offer.

Non-compliance is punishable under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code, the notice added.

What did Noreen Niazi say in the podcast interview?

The summons follows a podcast interview in which a video clip of Niazi went viral on social media. In it, she made claims about last year's brief military conflict between Pakistan and India, two nuclear-armed neighbours. She called the conflict "Marka-e-Haq" and alleged it was staged to boost the image of Pakistan's military, in alleged collusion with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Niazi also claimed India held back from further military action because of Pakistan's alleged moves toward recognising Israel. She alleged the United States wanted Pakistan to sign the Abraham Accords, linking this to US President Donald Trump's praise for Pakistan's leadership.

What else did Niazi claim about Israel recognition?

Niazi claimed Pakistani leaders were in contact with Israeli officials during the interview. She alleged that the process of recognising Israel had been delayed by the outbreak of the Iran-Israel conflict. She acknowledged, however, that no one had formally shared this information with her, and said she was drawing her own conclusions.

The NCCIA has not publicly detailed which specific statements or posts are under investigation.
