Pakistan and China deepen alliance in seventh strategic dialogue

Foreign ministers reviewed bilateral cooperation on economic and security matters

Pakistan's foreign minister co-chaired strategic talks with his Chinese counterpart Sunday, reinforcing a decades-old alliance between the South Asian nation and its largest trading partner amid discussions on a multibillion-dollar infrastructure program and regional security.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi for the seventh round of the Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue, the countries' highest-level institutional framework for bilateral cooperation covering political, economic and security matters.
The two nations conducted what officials described as a comprehensive review of relations and exchanged views on regional and global developments. Key agenda items included strengthening cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, enhancing bilateral trade, deepening multilateral coordination and expanding people-to-people exchanges.
"The enduring Pakistan-China friendship remains vital for peace, stability and shared prosperity in the region as well as for the two countries," both leaders said in reaffirming what they call their All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
Marking 75 years of ties
Both sides agreed to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations with commemorative activities planned throughout 2026. Pakistan and China established relations in 1951, and the partnership has evolved into what Islamabad considers one of its most critical foreign relationships.
Dar and Yi jointly on Sunday evening unveiled the official logo commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. The celebrations will feature a series of diplomatic, cultural, and people-to-people activities across both countries throughout the year.
Earlier Sunday, Dar met separately with China's Executive Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang and Liu Haixing, minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China. In those meetings, officials discussed party-to-party exchanges, reviewed regional developments and assessed progress on CPEC projects.
