Pakistan fined for slow over-rate in tri-series final

Pakistan produced an impressive performance to defeat Sri Lanka by three wickets in the tri-series final in Lahore.

PCB

Pakistan have been penalised five per cent of their match fees for a slow over-rate during their ODI tri-series final against Sri Lanka at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.

Why were Pakistan penalised?

Match referee Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel determined that Pakistan had bowled one over fewer than the required number after accounting for time allowances.

The offence falls under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which stipulates a five per cent match-fee deduction for every over a team falls short of the prescribed rate.

On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Wayne Knights, alongside third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Rashid Riaz, reported the violation.

Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi accepted the charge and proposed sanction, pleading guilty and avoiding a formal hearing.

How did Pakistan fare in the final?

The penalty came despite Pakistan producing an impressive performance to defeat Sri Lanka by three wickets, reaching their target with nine deliveries remaining.

Chasing 326, Fakhar Zaman led the charge with a magnificent 127 off 99 balls, registering his 12th ODI century with 11 boundaries and six sixes to guide Pakistan to victory.
