Pakistan govt issues directive for provision of uninterrupted gas supply to urea manufacturers
Federal cabinet meeting also directs committee to present comprehensive plan for state-owned enterprises that will be privatized
Pakistan’s federal cabinet has directed the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division to provide uninterrupted gas supply to urea manufacturers.
During a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the cabinet also directed the concerned ministries to take all measures to keep prices of urea fertilizer under control.
The federal cabinet’s decision comes after a decision of the Economic Coordination Committee earlier this month that 100,000 MT urea would be imported once gas supply to fertilizer plants is stopped after September.
Privatization Commission
The cabinet also approved a proposal of the Privatization Commission to increase the strength of its board members from the existing eight to 11.
The highest decision-making forum also ratified decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on Privatization during its meeting on August 2. The prime minister directed the committee to submit a comprehensive plan for State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) approved for privatization.
On the recommendation of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, the cabinet approved implementation of a court order regarding regularization of daily-wage teachers of the Federal Directorate of Education.
The meeting also ratified the decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on State-owned Enterprises taken on Aug 5 and those taken by the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases on July 31.
