Pakistan's information technology (IT) exports reached a record USD 4.6 billion in fiscal year 2026, rising 20.7% from USD 3.81 billion a year earlier, driven by strong global demand for digital services, supportive government policies and regulatory measures introduced by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

According to SBP data, IT exports totaled USD 416 million in June 2026, up 11.5% from USD 373 million in May and 22.7% higher than USD 339 million in June 2025.

The sector maintained strong momentum throughout the fiscal year, with monthly exports consistently exceeding USD 300 million.

IT exports accounted for about 11.7% of Pakistan's total exports in June, highlighting the sector's growing contribution to the country's export earnings.

The latest figures come as Pakistan seeks to diversify its exports beyond traditional sectors such as textiles while strengthening foreign exchange earnings through software development, freelancing, business process outsourcing (BPO) and other technology-enabled services.

Budget support for the IT sector

The federal government announced several measures in the FY2026-27 budget aimed at accelerating growth in the technology sector.

The budget maintained tax incentives for exporters, allocated additional resources for digital infrastructure and skills development, expanded funding for technology parks and innovation centers, and increased support for startups and venture financing. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting cashless transactions, digital payments and the broader digital economy as part of its economic transformation agenda.

The government also pledged to improve broadband connectivity, strengthen cybersecurity capabilities and expand digital public infrastructure to support continued growth in IT exports.

Pakistan aims to boost IT exports to $7.3 billion through infrastructure, skills and governance reforms.
