The official X account of Pakistan’s Economic Affairs Ministry was hacked on Thursday night, the ministry confirmed Friday.
A spokesperson said the hacker posted a message appealing to international lenders for more loans and referencing tensions with India.
“The post has no connection to the ministry,” the spokesperson clarified.

The incident comes amid escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan, triggered by the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which killed 26 Indian tourists. India blamed Pakistan, which denied involvement and called for an impartial investigation.
In retaliation, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and launched strikes on what it said were “terrorist infrastructure” sites in Pakistan. Islamabad rejected the claims, saying it had downed five Indian jets and intercepted 30 drones, though confirmed one drone hit a military installation in Lahore, injuring four soldiers and killing one civilian.
Three drones were shot down in Rawalpindi near sensitive military zones, a cricket stadium, where Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches were taking place with international players in attendance, and a food street, the Pakistan Army said.
Meanwhile, Indian media reported shooting down two Pakistani fighter jets during a retaliatory operation, claims Pakistan has refuted.
