The Kotri North Joint Venture, in which Pakistan Petroleum owns 40% working interest, has announced discovery of hydrocarbon reserves from its exploratory well Takri-1, in Sindh.

The Takri-1 well was spudded on November 11, 2024. Further drilling and subsequent tests confirmed presence of hydrocarbons in the interbedded sandstones. The well flowed at a rate of approximately 2.4 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd).

The Kotri North Joint Venture, also includes United Energy Pakistan as the operator with a 50% working interest, and Asia Resources Oil Limited with a 10% working interest.

The Takri-1 discovery opens new avenues for exploring the hydrocarbon potential of the Paleocene Khadro sands in the region.

This discovery is expected to add hydrocarbon reserves and enable the energy sector to reduce the current energy crisis in the country, saving foreign exchange through indigenous hydrocarbon production, a bourse filing noted.
