Pakistan is prioritizing digitalization as a key driver of economic growth, focusing on attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and expanding digital exports.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Pakistan’s Finance Minister, highlighted the country's recent success in increasing IT services exports to $384 million in December, a record high.

He emphasized the need for horizontal integration across sectors to unlock the full economic potential of digital technologies. “To unlock the economic value associated with digital, we have to go horizontal,” Aurangzeb said.

The minister said the government is implementing a comprehensive plan to advance its digitalization agenda, focusing on digital infrastructure, digital adoption, and the development of new digital services.

Acknowledging the importance of human capital, Aurangzeb stressed the need to nurture the country's large pool of freelancers.

He emphasized the importance of providing them with the necessary tools, including improved payment mechanisms and access to upskilling and reskilling programs.

The government is also collaborating with international partners, such as the UAE, to enhance trade and investment opportunities. This includes joint efforts to improve customs border efficiency and facilitate the movement of goods.
