Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves held by the central bank reached a record $21.389 billion after the country received proceeds from a Eurobond issuance, the State Bank of Pakistan said Thursday. The SBP reserves rose by $3.061 billion during the week ended September 11, marking the largest weekly increase since June 27, 2025.

What is the current amount of Pakistan's foreign reserves?

Pakistan's total liquid foreign exchange reserves stood at $26.791 billion as of September 11. Of this, the State Bank held $21.389 billion, a record high, while commercial banks held net foreign reserves of $5.402 billion during the same week.

Why did Pakistan's reserves jump this week?

The central bank attributed the sharp weekly increase to the receipt of Pakistan's Eurobond proceeds. The rise of $3.061 billion is the largest weekly gain the SBP has recorded in more than a year, since June 2025.

What does the reserve increase mean for Pakistan's economy?

The latest figures mark a significant improvement in Pakistan's external liquidity position, with SBP-held reserves accounting for most of the country's total foreign exchange holdings. The increase comes as Pakistan continues efforts to strengthen its external financing position and build foreign exchange buffers through international capital markets and other financing sources.
