Pakistan’s government said Saturday that fuel supplies across the country remain stable and at “comfortable levels” despite heightened volatility in global energy markets caused by regional geopolitical tensions.
The update came during a virtual meeting of the committee that monitors petrol prices, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, as part of a daily government review of developments in the energy sector.
Officials briefed the committee on the country’s current inventory of crude oil and refined petroleum products, import arrangements, and supply chain logistics, according to a statement issued by the Finance Division. Authorities also reviewed cargoes already en route to Pakistan and additional shipments being arranged to strengthen national reserves.
Members were told that supply chains are functioning smoothly and that existing stockpiles, along with planned imports, are expected to support domestic demand for petrol, diesel, aviation fuel and liquefied petroleum gas in the coming weeks.
The committee also examined recent movements in international crude and refined petroleum markets, which officials said have become increasingly volatile due to geopolitical developments in the region.
Participants discussed possible scenarios and their potential impact on Pakistan’s energy sector and broader economy.
Officials said the government is closely monitoring global price trends, benchmark crude movements, and refined product markets while conducting ongoing scenario planning to protect domestic energy security and economic stability.
The meeting also reviewed operational arrangements for crude imports, refinery operations, and maritime logistics. Authorities outlined steps being taken to facilitate cargo movements, maintain optimal refinery throughput, and ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the petroleum supply chain.
Participants emphasized the need for close coordination among refineries, oil marketing companies, and government institutions to maintain smooth product flows and nationwide fuel availability.
The committee also considered targeted fuel conservation and demand-management measures aimed at moderating import needs during periods of international price volatility. Officials discussed options related to more efficient fuel consumption and conservation initiatives within the public sector.
Members were additionally briefed on efforts to strengthen monitoring mechanisms across the petroleum supply chain, including the development of a digital dashboard intended to provide real-time visibility of stock levels, depot inventories, and retail supply conditions.
Aurangzeb said the government’s priority is ensuring the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products while minimizing the financial burden on consumers.
Although global energy markets are experiencing significant volatility, Pakistan’s supply position remains stable due to proactive planning and coordination among stakeholders, he said.
The finance minister added that the committee will continue to review international energy markets, domestic stock levels, and supply chain dynamics on a daily basis to ensure timely policy responses.
The meeting was attended by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, National Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, and senior officials from relevant ministries, divisions, and regulatory bodies.
