Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday held a telephone call with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian to express Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran in the wake of what he called Israel’s “unprovoked and unjustified aggression.”
Sharif condemned the Israeli strikes as a clear violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, describing them as a breach of the UN Charter and international law. He affirmed that Iran had every right to defend itself under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
The call came amid a dramatic escalation in hostilities between Tehran and Tel Aviv. A day after Israel launched sweeping airstrikes targeting Iranian commanders, scientists, and nuclear infrastructure, both countries exchanged missile attacks, fueling fears of a broader regional conflict. Israel has framed its actions as a preemptive strike to thwart Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
U.S. President Donald Trump praised Israel’s offensive, warning of even tougher consequences if Iran fails to meet Washington’s demands to curb its nuclear program — negotiations over which were expected to resume on Sunday.
With Israel signaling a prolonged campaign and urging Iranians to turn against their government, concerns have grown over the risk of a regional war with far-reaching global consequences.
The prime minister further denounced Israel’s “blatant provocations and adventurism,” calling them a serious threat to regional and global peace. He also strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing “genocidal campaign against the valiant Palestinians, carried out with complete impunity.”
Calling for urgent action, Sharif urged the United Nations and the international community to step in decisively to halt Israel’s aggression and illegal actions. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and said the country stands ready to play its part in de-escalation efforts.
In response, President Pezeshkian thanked Sharif for Pakistan’s timely support, especially at the UN Security Council, calling it a reflection of the deep and brotherly ties between the two nations.
Both leaders agreed to stay in close contact amid the unfolding crisis.
Shehbaz, Erdogan call for joint action against Israeli aggression
Meanwhile, PM Sharif also spoke with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the escalating regional tensions following Israel’s airstrikes on Iran.
Both leaders strongly condemned Israel’s “unprovoked and unjustified” attacks, calling them a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a threat to regional and global peace. They also denounced Israel’s continued aggression against Palestinians.
Emphasizing the need for a unified response, the two leaders urged the UN and international community to take immediate action to halt Israel’s military adventurism in Iran, Palestine, and the wider region.
Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace through diplomatic channels, noting that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar would represent Pakistan at the upcoming OIC Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Istanbul. He also congratulated Erdogan on receiving an honor from the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum.
Both leaders agreed to stay in close coordination as part of their ongoing diplomatic outreach.
