The political committee of Pakistan's opposition party Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has refused to participate in any government-convened national security meeting until immediate access is granted to the party’s founding chairman, Imran Khan, for his family and legal counsel.

The decision came after a meeting of the party’s political committee, where members discussed the prevailing domestic and international situation.

The committee expressed grave concern over the continued denial of access to Khan’s personal physicians, despite constitutional protections and court orders. It said meetings between Khan and his family have been suspended since October 2, 2025, in violation of judicial directives.

PTI also criticized what it called the “secret transfer” of Khan to a hospital and the alleged concealment of information regarding his health condition, calling the actions unconstitutional and unlawful. The party rejected reports of unilateral medical examinations conducted without the presence of his personal doctors and family members.

The committee reiterated its demands for immediate arrangements to facilitate meetings between Khan, his family and his lawyers. It also demanded his transfer without delay to Shifa International Hospital for treatment under the supervision of his personal physicians and family.

International response

On the international front, the committee strongly condemned what it described as aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran, calling it a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability. Participants offered prayers for Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and for civilians who lost their lives in the reported attacks, expressing deep sorrow over claims that more than 160 schoolgirls were killed.

The committee also condemned the use of force against peaceful protesters nationwide and demanded transparent investigations into reported fatalities.

PTI said it would only consider attending government meetings once court orders are fully implemented and its founding chairman’s constitutional rights are restored.
