Six members of the same family, including four children, died after a fire tore through their home in Peshawar, Pakistan, on Thursday.
Rescue officials said the blaze started in the main hall of the house, which belonged to local Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) leader Siraj Munir, in the city's Tehkal Payan area.
What caused the fire in Peshawar?
The fire broke out in the main hall of Munir's home, where furniture, foam and other combustible materials were stored.
Bilal Ahmed Faizi, spokesperson for Rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, told Nukta these materials fed the blaze. Firefighters extinguished the fire before searching the property, and the exact cause remains under investigation.
Who died in the Peshawar house fire?
Munir, his wife and their four children lost their lives in the fire, Faizi said. Their bodies were recovered together from a room inside the house. Peshawar is the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan.
How did the victims die?
Officials believe the victims died from smoke inhalation and extreme heat rather than direct burns. Rescue teams found all six bodies in a single room after putting out the flames. Investigators are still working to determine what triggered the fire in the first place.
