PIA enters a new chapter as it is looks to expands its fleet
Norse Atlantic Airways will lease two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft to Pakistan International Airlines, the Norwegian carrier said Friday, as it shifts toward aircraft leasing to strengthen its finances, Reuters reported.
Flight operations for Pakistan’s national flag carrier using the aircraft are scheduled to begin in November 2026, Norse said.
The agreement will help Norse retain a key aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) contract after India’s largest airline, IndiGo, said in July it would end its wet-lease arrangement with the Norwegian group, Reuters reported.
Norse has been scaling back its exposure to low-cost transatlantic services amid soaring jet fuel costs and increasing its focus on ACMI agreements, under which it provides aircraft and crews to other airlines for a fee.
The company said long-term ACMI agreements with major international airlines help protect it against fluctuations in passenger demand and fuel prices. It added that it was in discussions with other airlines about potential contracts.
Norse operates a fleet of 12 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
The airline began a formal process in July to explore a possible sale or merger as it seeks to address financial challenges and reshape its business.
