Pakistan's Power Division has resolved 11,695 pending net-metering applications and begun contacting affected consumers directly, following special instructions from Federal Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari.
The ministry announced the update on Saturday, aiming to help eligible consumers complete the process without relying on agents or intermediaries.
How many net-metering applications has Pakistan's Power Division resolved?
Of 16,654 applications that remained pending during the transition from net metering to net billing, 11,695 have now been verified as complete, valid and compliant with the relevant rules and regulations. The Pakistan Information Technology Company (PITC) is contacting these consumers directly about the status of their applications. Verification of the remaining 4,959 applications is continuing.
A comprehensive verification process was launched by the Power Division and relevant institutions to review the applications on a priority basis. The remaining cases are being checked against relevant records, clarifications issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), and applicable rules and guidelines. The government said the process was designed to ensure eligible consumers receive a decision without unnecessary delays.
How is the Power Division contacting affected consumers?
PITC is reaching consumers through text messages, WhatsApp and other digital channels to inform them of their application status and next steps. Consumers can also check their status directly through the PITC verification portal. The government has stressed that consumers do not need to pay any fee or money to any individual for expedited or further processing of their applications.
This direct-contact mechanism is intended to protect consumers from unnecessary interference. It is also designed to prevent agents or other individuals from exploiting applicants by falsely claiming they can resolve or speed up their applications, the ministry said.
What is Pakistan's policy on net metering and solar energy?
Pakistan remains committed to promoting solar and renewable energy, the Power Division said, describing solarisation as an important part of the country's energy future. Government policy seeks to support the sector while protecting consumers' legitimate rights and ensuring a transparent and sustainable system. The process also aims to prevent fraudulent applications or those containing incorrect information from benefiting from the system.
Leghari said the government's priority was to resolve legitimate public cases without unnecessary delays or interference. He directed relevant institutions to complete verification of the remaining applications as soon as possible and ensure consumers receive clear information about their status.
