Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) joint parliamentary party in the National Assembly and Senate unanimously passed a sweeping eight-point resolution late Tuesday, October 27, mounting a coordinated legal, political, and parliamentary offensive against the federal government's recent administrative clampdowns.

The party demanded the immediate release and hospital transfer of incarcerated founder Imran Khan, the revocation of emergency and Governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the immediate release of detained provincial Chief Minister Sohail Afridi

Speaking to reporters alongside party lawmakers outside Parliament House, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan demanded an immediate end to federal overreach in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, insisting that executive governance be restored to the province's elected leadership under Chief Minister Afridi.

Former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser formally presented the unanimous resolution, which reaffirmed the party’s allegiance to Imran Khan’s leadership while codifying urgent constitutional and legal demands.

How will high-powered steering committee address Imran Khan's medical care and detention?

To break the administrative deadlock surrounding the jailed party founder, the parliamentary party resolved to establish a six-member steering committee tasked with securing unhindered access and medical attention for Khan.

Senator Mashal Yousafzai confirmed that the panel will be jointly led by Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas. The steering committee includes four additional parliamentarians, comprising one Member of the National Assembly (MNA) and one Senator each representing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

The resolution demanded the immediate implementation of the Supreme Court's August 2026 directives, which mandate independent medical evaluations for Khan, the direct involvement of his personal physician, and specialized medical treatment at Shifa International Hospital. Lawmakers also called for the restoration of unrestricted visitation rights for his family, legal counsel, and authorized party leadership, alongside the immediate release of his wife, Bushra Bibi.

Why did PTI reject Governor's rule and parallel administrative setups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa?

The joint parliamentary party declared the imposition of emergency and Governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa an unconstitutional assault on provincial autonomy and the federal structure of the 1973 Constitution.

The resolution categorically rejected the federal government's unelected advisory council and parallel administrative mechanisms in Peshawar, asserting that constitutional executive powers cannot be outsourced to non-representative bodies.

The party demanded the immediate release of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, and party provincial president Junaid Akbar Khan.

Lawmakers cautioned that weaponizing counter-terrorism operations to dismantle an elected provincial mandate risks exacerbating inter-provincial friction and reigniting deep-seated administrative grievances, drawing explicit parallels to historic policy missteps in Balochistan.

What demands were outlined regarding political prisoners, constitutional amendments, and national security?

The resolution strongly condemned the ongoing wave of detentions, raids, enforced disappearances, and cases registered under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance against PTI leaders, parliamentarians, and civil rights advocates before, during, and after the party’s recent long march.

The parliamentary forum demanded the unconditional release of Imran Khan’s three sisters, party vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, and Omar Cheema.

PTI raised alarm over the detention and reported disappearance of ten MNAs—including Haji Imtiaz Ahmed Choudhary, Muhammad Jamal Ahsan Khan, Mian Ghous Muhammad, Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel, Dawar Khan Kundi, Dr. Amjad Ali Khan, Fazal Muhammad Khan, Adil Khan Bazai, Maulana Syed Naseem Ali Shah, and Muhammad Zubair Khan Wazir—demanding their immediate production in Parliament.

The assembly also denounced the convictions of Omar Ayub Khan, Shibli Faraz, and other senior officials, demanding an end to arbitrary political disqualifications and judicial harassment targeting rights advocates Imaan Mazari and Hadi Chatha.

On national security, the parliamentary party reiterated its categorical condemnation of terrorism in all forms, paying tribute to the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces, police personnel, and civilians.

The resolution censured the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) coalition for allegedly driving a wedge between PTI and state institutions by mischaracterizing legitimate political opposition as anti-state activity.

To resolve the protracted political impasse, the resolution called for the restoration of the February 8 election mandate or the immediate announcement of fresh, transparent general elections, an independent judicial inquiry into the incidents of May 9, 2023, and November 26, 2024, the repeal of the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments, and the safeguarding of judicial independence. The gathering concluded by reaffirming full confidence in the leadership appointed by Imran Khan, pledging strict internal party discipline and coordinated legal action across all constitutional forums.

The opposition steering committee is scheduled to meet in Islamabad on Wednesday to finalize its parliamentary engagement strategy
